Top Gear’s Ferrara coming to Volo Auto Museum
VOLO – It’s hard to imagine a more perfect setting for a meet-and-greet between fans of “Top Gear” and its high-energy co-host, Adam Ferrara.
That’s right. Ferrara is coming to the Volo Auto Museum. He’ll meet fans and sign autographs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the museum, 27582 Volo Village Road, Volo.
Ferrara is a stand-up comedian, an actor whose credits include playing Chief “Needles” Nelson on the Emmy-nominated FX series “Rescue Me,” and one of the three hosts of cable channel History’s Top Gear, U.S.’ version of the hugely popular BBC series.
Museum Director Brian Grams said he met Ferrara several years ago when Ferrara visited the museum for a different History project. The filming that was done didn’t wind up airing, but Grams made a connection from which museum visitors are about to benefit.
Grams said he has been eyeing ways to promote the all-weather aspect of the museum, well-known among car aficionados for its outdoor summer car shows. The museum is open year-round, and features hundreds of antique, muscle and Hollywood cars — all indoors.
“I figured I’d give (Ferrara) a call and see if he would come out. It actually worked out pretty well,” Grams said. “Normally he doesn’t do meet-and-greets, but he was going to be in town.”
Ferrara is performing six shows at the Chicago Improv in Schaumburg Feb. 21-24.
Grams said he is excited about Ferrara’s upcoming appearance.
“When we worked with him before, he was very energetic, very entertaining, so I’m sure it’ll be more than just shaking hands,” he said, adding that he hopes to persuade Ferrara to return to film a “Top Gear” episode in Volo in the future.
Ferrara’s appearance also will serve as a pre-grand opening for a spectacular new exhibit space near the museum’s entrance.
Cost for the Ferrara event will be $13.95 for adults, $11.95 for seniors, $8.95 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and younger. Admission includes entry to all museum showrooms. Museum memberships are available; members always are admitted free.
The Volo Auto Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular admission is $11.95 per adult, $6.95 for children ages 6 to 12, and $9.95 for veterans and military personnel with ID. Admission is free for military personnel in uniform and children 5 and younger. For other information, or to buy tickets in advance, visit www.volocars.com.
