Super heroes to unite at Volo Auto Museum

VOLO — Celebrity sightings are nothing new at the Volo Auto Museum, but this spring break is sure to tip the scales.

Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Spiderman and more — all will meander the museum March 30, the capstone to more than a week of spring break excitement. From March 22 through March 30, all children ages 12 and younger who arrive in costume will be admitted free, said Brian Grams, director of the museum at 27582 Volo Village Road, Volo.

“It’s a super hero spring break,” Grams said. “Everyone had such a great time last summer with the Super Hero Night we co-sponsored at the McHenry Outdoor that we thought this would be a blast. And it ties in well because we have some amazing super hero TV and movie vehicles like the Black Beauty from ‘Green Hornet,' the motorcycle from ‘Ghost Riders,’ and, of course, the Batmobile.”

Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the chance to bring costumed children for free and enjoy a day at this exciting area venue — a place where the Midwest’s erratic spring weather won’t matter. The all-indoors Volo Auto Museum features hundreds of Hollywood, classic and muscle cars, as well as rare Disney and Looney Tunes statuary and memorabilia, antique arcades and old-fashioned kiddy rides.

“We have an Incredible Hulk and a Batman kiddy ride, and these will be running free throughout spring break,” Grams said. “Also, on the 30th, visitors will be able to meet some real live super heroes.”

Members of We Are Cosplay will portray Iron Man, Captain America and more, Grams explained. The costumes are elaborately detailed, and portrayals will delight young and old alike, he said.

“These are the same people who entertained during Super Hero Night last summer,” Grams said.

Last but not least, a first-time-ever, free opportunity to have a picture taken in the Batmobile from the ’60s television series will be offered the weekends of March 22-23 and 29-30. Bring your camera and wow your friends.

“The whole family will be able to enjoy it,” Grams said. “We look forward to it.”

The Volo Auto Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For other information, visit volocars.com, call (815) 385-3644, or find the Volo Auto Museum on Facebook.
