Oldsmobile intruduced the 88 badge in 1949.

Oldsmobile intruduced the 88 badge in 1949.  It was named to complement the already-existing 76 and 98, and took the place of the straight eight powered 78 in the model lineup.  The new 1950 88 used the same new futuramic B-body platform as the 6 cylinder model 76, but paired it with the powerful new Rocket V8 engine.  Suddenly, the flathead Ford was old-school and the high-compression Rocket was in.  The Rocket 88 vaulted Oldsmobile from a somewhat staid, conservative car to a performer that became the one to beat on the NASCAR circuits.  It won 6 of the 9 NASCAR late-model division races in 1949, 10 of 19 in 1950, 20 of 41 in 1952, and was the first real "King of NASCAR", which led to increased demand from the public.  This rear Olds was beautifully restored, drives as new, and ready to show or drive.  Complete video of this vehicle available for $50, refunded with vehicle purchase, and includes overnight shipping of video.  Call our classic car division at 815-385-8408 for video and/or vehicle information.
