Body off frame restored, a/c
Body off the frame restoration. Outstanding example of a classic lead sled.EXTERIOR: Chopped top, smoothed body and so much more. Let's start up front: custom grill, hood corners are rounded, headlights are frenched, trim and hood ornament were shaved and filled. Each side had the door handles and side moldings shaved and filled. Doors open by remote, custom moldings and skirts were installed on each 1/4 panel. Fuel door was filled in. In back the trunk was shaved and filled, taillights were tweaked. Then it was all covered in a glass finish red paint. 50s style hand pinstripe is the cherry on top. Most have dummy spotlights, these are genuine Appleton spotlights that work. It also has Lake pipes and sombrero hubcaps center the the big white walls. This car was done back in the 90s and it is held up incredibly well. Whoever did this, did an outstanding job. There's no signs of bodywork, rust or stress cracks showing that I can find. Also look how nicely everything fits. that Hood, doors, trunk and the chop fit so square and flush. There are no chips around the edges that are touched up like you typically see. The red paint is like a red mirror, I'm sure there will be some minor imperfections if you look for them. Overall it's gorgeous. All the chrome has been redone, the stainless moldings even around the windows is all professionally straightened and polished. The windshield is V butted in the middle, the glass is tinted.
INTERIOR: Really beautiful as well and it pops in bright white. Custom upholstered seats, door panels and headliner all match. Premium red carpet. The dash is all repainted red, has a 59 Impala steering wheel on a tilt column. Nice set of gauges, custom knobs and a stereo. It has white seat belts in front and power windows.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Powered by a 400 Chevy small block. Show quality, the first time I opened the hood I thought wow! The engine bay is all painted red like the outside, even has matching custom pinstriping. A polished aluminum intake and some vintage looking finned valve covers with red details between the fins and a Cadillac style air cleaner that's been pinstriped dresses up the motor. It also features air conditioning, power steering and chrome alternator. Radiator, shroud and fan look proper, plus it has an auxiliary electric fan in front. It has an Edelbrock carb and MSD ignition system.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The side panels and under the trunk lid are upholstered to match the interior. The spare has custom cover. The floor is carpeted. Gas filler was relocated inside the trunk.
UNDERSIDE: The body was off the frame for restoration. It is possibly the best looking underside I've seen on a chopped Merc. Usually the car is so low they don't bother making the bottom pretty. Also it is not typical to have the original floors, and these are clean! The entire bottom of the car was painted red like the body. The chassis is black. It has original frame with a GM front independent suspension attached. The bottom of the motor is clean, has chrome vented flywheel cover. Turbo 350 automatic connects to a 10 bolt rear with 2.75 cruising gears. The front end components look good. Has lowering blocks in back. Shocks look new. Lowering blocks. Recent dual exhaust with old school cherry bomb style mufflers. Brakes were recently inspected, the hoses and lines look fresh. Has a power brake booster under the car.
Ready to cruise. This chopped Merc is one of the best around. Beautiful to look at, comfortable to drive. Nothing to do but enjoy.
