Sight Unseen Buy Back Policy: Peace of Mind When Buying Remotely

At Volo Museum Auto Sales, we want every customer to feel confident and comfortable with their purchase. That’s why we welcome and encourage all prospective buyers to visit us in person, inspect our vehicles thoroughly, and take them for a test drive. You’re welcome to use our on-site shop for a deeper inspection before making your decision. Only you know your personal expectations—and nothing beats seeing a car with your own eyes.

We also recognize that some buyers may choose to purchase sight unseen. While this is entirely your decision, we encourage you to carefully review all available information and ask any questions you may have. Your satisfaction matters to us, regardless of how you choose to buy.

A Transparent and Trustworthy Buying Experience

We are committed to helping every buyer make a confident, informed purchase. Our sales process includes:

  • High-Resolution, Unedited Photos
  • Walkaround and Startup Videos
  • Detailed Written Descriptions Based on Our Honest Opinions and Industry Knowledge
  • Access to Vehicle Lifts for Underbody Inspections
  • Test Drives
  • Third-Party Inspections Encouraged and Welcomed
  • Buyers Are Always Welcome to Perform Their Own In-Person Inspections

These resources are designed to provide buyers with a solid starting point for evaluating a vehicle—not a substitute for personal due diligence. We encourage buyers to use this information as a foundation but also to conduct their own inspections and assessments.

We are open seven days a week from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for vehicle viewing, offering buyers full access to inspect our vehicles. While we encourage buyers to view the vehicle in person, the choice is entirely theirs. If a buyer decides not to view the vehicle, that is their decision and not a limitation set by us.

Understand the Risks of Buying Sight Unseen

We recognize that an in-person visit isn’t always possible, and buying sight unseen has become the preferred method of purchase for many of our clients. Since 1960, we have proudly built a reputation for accurately representing our vehicles, backed by a 96% customer satisfaction rate. However, we also understand that no seller can satisfy everyone.

Even with our commitment to transparency and honesty, purchasing a vehicle sight unseen carries an element of risk. Condition is highly subjective—what one person considers excellent may be seen as average by another. Our descriptions are thorough, but perceptions can vary, and we cannot account for every buyer’s personal expectations.

This risk is eliminated when buyers choose to view the vehicle in person. Ultimately, the decision to accept this risk rests with the buyer.

Our Sight-Unseen Buy Back Policy

That’s why we’ve created our Buy Back Policy specifically for sight-unseen buyers. If your as-is purchase doesn't align with your expectations, you’re free to change your mind. You may sell the vehicle back to us for 80% of the purchase price.

Why 80%? Choosing to purchase a vehicle without seeing it in person introduces risks and costs for both the buyer and the seller. The 20% difference reflects a shared responsibility for that decision. While the buyer accepts a partial reduction in value, the seller absorbs costs in lost time, effort, and the expense of re-inspecting, re-preparing, and remarketing the vehicle. This policy ensures that the convenience of buying sight unseen is balanced by a fair understanding of the impact on both parties.

Setting Realistic Expectations for Classic Cars

It's important to have realistic expectations. These are old cars. No amount of restoration or price point will give you the reliability of a new car. Part of owning a collector car is understanding that anything can happen at any time.

We carefully select our inventory, and each vehicle undergoes a standard inspection both upon arrival and before delivery. During this process, we address any issues identified through test drives and visual inspections. However, please understand that we do not disassemble the vehicles to inspect each of the 34,000+ components to verify their condition or ensure that every part is new.

While we have confidence in the vehicles we offer and in the condition we observe during our inspections, we cannot speak to the exact workmanship of prior restorations performed by previous owners. And like any classic vehicle, future performance or reliability cannot be guaranteed.

Owning a classic car means embracing its history, quirks, and the certainty of ongoing maintenance and repairs. Our goal is to help buyers make informed decisions they can feel confident about.
