Batmobile to lead parade in Volo May 1
Village, Volo Auto Museum collaborate to bring good cheer

VOLO — Residents sheltering in place in the Terra Springs, Remington Pointe and other Volo subdivisions will want to step outside — or at least come to their windows — this Friday afternoon.

After all, they won’t want to miss it when the Batmobile and a handful of the Volo Auto Museum’s other amazing cars snake through their neighborhoods.

Starting at 1 p.m. May 1, several cars including the Batmobile, a Ghostbusters car, the museum’s ¾-scale trackless steam locomotive and a few other classics will set out from Volo Village Road to Route 12. From there, it will be on to the Terra Springs, Remington Pointe and Remington Pointe North subdivisions. Lancaster North and South subdivisions will be next.

From there, it will be on to the Autumn Grove and Symphony Meadows subdivisions. Then it’s back to the museum, where those who don’t live along the route are invited to do a free drive-by viewing, said Brian Grams, director of the museum at 27582 Volo Village Road.

“Mayor Stephen Henley asked us if we would roll a sampling of our cars through Volo as a treat for village residents,” said Grams. “We think that’s a great idea.”

Those viewing the lineup along the route are cautioned to social distance from their neighbors. Those who would like to drive by after the cars return to the museum lot should enter at the front gate along Volo Village Road and exit at the rear, along Fox Lake Road. Those viewing the lineup in the parking lot must stay in their cars, Henley and Grams said. The drive-by viewing is free. Gates will close at 5 p.m.

“Lots of people are feeling the strain after more than a month of shelter-in-place,” Grams said of the response to COVID-19. “This is a fun way to brighten the day. It’s also a chance for us to show off a glimpse of what those who’ve never been here have been missing, and to encourage them to visit when we reopen.”

The Volo Auto Museum features hundreds of vintage, classic and film-famous cars as well as music machines, animatronic displays and more. Owners presently plan to reopen June 1. Social distancing measures and sanitation stations will be in place.

Guests and public-facing employees will be required to wear masks. For other information, call 815-385-3644, visit volocars.com or find Volo Auto Museum on Facebook.
