‘South Beach Classics’ features Volo Auto Museum

VOLO — The Volo Auto Museum will be featured on the popular reality TV show “South Beach Classics” at 9 p.m. CST Wednesday, Jan. 20, on the Velocity Channel.

A crew visited the museum at 27582 Volo Village Road, Volo, in October. In the upcoming episode, one of the show’s stars, Ted Vernon, makes a $450,000 offer for one of the museum’s cars — a red, 1989 anniversary model Lamborghini Countach with just 900 original miles.

Museum Director Brian Grams stands firm at $500,000. But he agrees to gamble on whether Vernon must pay full price or Grams accepts the $450,000 offer, made on behalf of a South Beach Classics buyer.

The gamble? A tractor race.

Be sure to tune in to see who wins, and whether someone gets schooled on the existence of a 1958 Lamborghini.

Grams said the museum is no stranger to camera crews, but participating in a reality TV show was something new. And not all of the excitement that transpired was part of the plan.

“The crew was a lot of fun to work with,” Grams said. “But one of them wound up getting 58 stitches because he walked right into the Ford tractor. His depth perception was off from looking through the camera.”

Caution: Items in the viewfinder may be closer than they appear. Ouch!

The Volo Auto Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. It features roughly 400 classic, antique, muscle and Hollywood cars — and much more. Admission is $14.95 for adults, $8.95 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger. For other information, call 815-385-3644 or find Volo Auto Museum on Facebook.
