The world famous Volo Museum was built from a genuine 1800's farm and features many of the original buildings mixing country charm, unique character and incredible collections spread out over 60 acres. It started in 1960 as a world famous showroom featuring hundreds of rotating classic and collector cars to now boasting over 45 exhibits and 10,000 mechanical marvels for all ages. Located in northwest Chicago suburbs, this museum is home to countless iconic and pop-culture artifacts that can’t be found anywhere else in the world including TV and Hollywood vehicles, a military museum, a Coney Island Carousel and Music Hall, Disney displays, a gangster crime and Medieval punishment museum, planes, trains, boats, bikes, scooters, a 15,000 sq ft animatronic dinosaur park, an antique mall with over 300 vendors and so much more!
Our Wide Range of Attractions
The Volo Auto Museum is situated on 35 beautifully groomed acres and is one of the most unique auto museums in Illinois, as well as the entire country. The heart of our family owned and operated museum is Volo Auto Sales, which has one of the most respected names in the industry. Wander our auto showrooms and marvel at the iconic classic and muscle cars, and even original cars from movies and TV.
But we're more than just cars. We're a place where the past comes to life. From a self-playing orchestra to a Disney gallery, our vast collection of pop culture and Americana artifacts offers visitors a stroll down memory lane and the chance to make new memories.
Thousands of mechanical marvels are waiting to be explored — but that's not all that draws 250,000 visitors to the Volo Auto Museum every year. Hop aboard our seasonal train tours and hear about the history of our classic auto museum while you take a ride around the property. Stroll through the village and see an 1885 train caboose and a 1949 motorhome. Then enjoy lunch and a show at Show Biz Pizza.

Plan Your Family Trip
Planning a family or group trip to the Volo Auto Museum is exciting. There's so much to see and do, and you may wonder if you'll have time for everything. We recommend spending anywhere between 1 1/2 hours to five hours with us, but each visitor is different. You can plan an entire day to explore all the museum has to offer, or carve out a few hours on the weekend and let our most popular exhibits inspire you.
Here are a few must-know details as you're planning your visit:
- Hours: The Volo Auto Museum is open seven days a week, 10am-5pm.
- Location: Just 50 miles north of Chicago, getting here is easy via a Metra train ride from the city. Hop on close to home, and get off at the Fox Lake Station. Cab service to Volo is available at the Fox Lake train station.
- General Admission: Costs for admission are $19.95 for adults, $12.95 for children ages five to 12, $17.95 for seniors, and $16.95 for veterans and military with ID. Children under five and military in uniform receive free admission.
- Handicap Accessibility: Most of the museum is wheelchair-accessible. Handicap restrooms are located throughout the property.
